Exciting Milestone: Keel Laying Ceremony for REM Pioneer

Exciting Milestone: Keel Laying Ceremony for REM Pioneer

On October 24th, 2024, we celebrated the keel laying ceremony for the REM Pioneer at Song Cam, Vietnam—a remarkable achievement in our journey of building this pioneering vessel! After the initial steel cutting on 3rd July, we’re thrilled to already see substantial progress 24th October with large blocks now assembled on the slipway. This is quite an achievement!

This milestone reflects the strength of the collaboration between Song Cam Shipyard, SBIC, Myklebust, and our ship design team. The REM representatives were warmly welcomed and given a full tour, gaining insights into the impressive facilities and the exceptional craftsmanship on display. The attention to quality and commitment to industry standards left a strong impression on our team.

With deep appreciation for our partners, REM Offshore looks forward to continued cooperation and progress on this exciting project.

The  Energy Subsea Construction Vessel (ESCV) “Rem Pioneer” will be delivered in 2026 and will be the first of its kind that can perform heavy construction work in both offshore wind and subsea with net zero emissions. The newbuild is ground-breaking and uses a number of solutions where energy consumption is almost halved compared to comparable tonnage in today’s market, as well as meeting future requirements for zero emissions from end to end. The vessel will be equipped with dual-fuel methanol engines in combination with battery packs. All offshore lifting equipment, including the 250 T crane, is electric and regenerates power to the batteries. The working deck is over 1,400 m2, and it is also prepared for the installation of an offshore gangway for use in offshore wind. “Rem Pioneer” accommodates 120 persons.

Rem Offshore and VARD sign contract for CSOV

Rem Offshore and VARD sign contract for CSOV

Rem Offshore is pleased to announce that we have signed a contract for the design and construction of a state-of-the-art CSOV (Commissioning Service Operation Vessel) with VARD. This is the third CSOV VARD delivers to REM Offshore. The first two, REM Power and REM Wind, were delivered in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

The CSOV is tailored to provide services during the construction, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind farms worldwide. The VARD 4 19 design, developed by Vard Design in Ålesund, is a highly versatile platform for all support operations for offshore wind farms, focusing on onboard logistics, safety, comfort, and superior functionality.

The vessel will be equipped with a diesel-electric and battery hybrid propulsion system designed for highly flexible and fuel-efficient operation. Substantial volumes in the vessel are set aside for future upgrades or conversion to zero emission energy sources.

CEO in Rem Offshore, Lars Conradi Andersen is looking forward to continue the collaboration with VARD:

  • Rem Power and Rem Wind have set a new standard with their innovative solutions, high performance and low emissions. These ships were developed and built in close and good cooperation between us and VARD, and it is only natural for us to return to VARD when we now want to expand the fleet with a new CSOV.

Vard Electro’s SeaQ integrated bridge system will be part of the equipment onboard. The SeaQ bridge is the highest level of bridge integration with an extended architecture. The bridge uses a combination of VARD-developed integration solutions combined with touch screens to gather various systems into one operator station. The system has full-function startup and control functions.

CEO of VARD, Cathrine K. Marti, is pleased that REM Offshore is ordering another vessel from VARD:

  • We are pleased to see REM Offshore return to VARD for another contract and look forward to the good collaboration. It is important to us that we meet our customers’ expectations which again makes VARD a highly relevant partner when new vessels are to be built. Our strength is to deliver advanced and innovative vessels on time and within budget. This contract shows that we live up to our slogan, Built on Trust. Thanks again to REM Offshore for the trust placed in VARD.

The vessel has innovative equipment from several subcontractors:

The Kongsberg Group delivers the decision support system to the SeaQ integrated bridge system.

The vessel is also equipped with Metizoft’s Life Cycle Assessment system (LCA), which measures the vessel’s environmental impact through each step of its life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal. By analyzing all relevant Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), a complete assessment of the total environmental impact is made.

A highly specialized and customized work vessel delivered by Mare Safety provides safe, comfortable, and efficient transport of technicians and cargo between the CSOV and the wind turbines.

The CSOV is 85 x 19.5 m with cabins for up to 120 people, including 93 wind turbine technicians and a crew of up to 27 people.

The vessel will be built at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam and is scheduled for delivery in Q4 2026.

Rem Offshore and Myklebust Verft have signed a contract for the construction of an Energy Subsea Construction Vessel (ESCV) with a 250 tonne crane. The vessel will be delivered in 2026 and will be the first of its kind that can perform heavy construction work in both offshore wind and subsea with net zero emissions. The contract also contains an option to build one more vessel.

Skipsteknisk has designed a very flexible platform in close cooperation with the Rem and Myklebust. The newbuilding is ground-breaking and uses a number of solutions where energy consumption is almost halved compared to comparable tonnage in today’s market, as well as meeting future requirements for zero emissions from end to end.The vessel will be equipped with dual-fuel methanol engines in combination with battery packs. All offshore lifting equipment, including the 250 T crane, is electric and regenerates power to the batteries. The working deck is over 1,400 m2, and it is also prepared for the installation of an offshore gangway for use in offshore wind.

– This is a big milestone for Rem Offshore. We are ordering our first net zero emission vessel and taking a big step into the future. We are looking forward to being able to offer the vessel to the market, and believe that our customers will appreciate the opportunity for more efficient and sustainable operations, says Lars Conradi Andersen, CEO of Rem Offshore

Myklebust Verft has delivered newbuilds to Rem in the past, and was a natural choice according to Conradi Andersen. – We know Myklebust Verft well, it is a quality yard that delivers ships of a high standard. Adding in their competitiveness, it is natural for us to use the world-leading maritime cluster locally when renewing our fleet.

Myklebust Verft is looking forward to add a new project to the backlog for a local customer.

– We are very happy that Rem Offshore has chosen Myklebust Verft to build this environmentally friendly vessel. This assignment is a recognition of all our employees and the quality that Myklebust stands for. The project will also have major positive ripple effects in our area, says Leiv Sindre Muren, CEO of Myklebust Verft.
